Exhibition – Design for Adaptation 1

The final exhibition of the design studio opened on 26 June 2026 as part of the Steyrer Stadtfest and Grünland Festival in the Kulturzone at Schlosspark Steyr. Architecture students from TU Wien presented the results of the design studio Design for Adaptation 1 and offered insights into their proposals for the future cultural use of the Kulturzone.

During the Summer Semester 2026, the students worked on the “Kulturzone / Barocke Nordzone” designated in the Masterplan Schlosspark 2045. The aim was to imagine this area as an open and accessible space for a wide range of cultural initiatives and formats. Building on research, analyses, surveys and conversations on site, teams of two to three students developed different future scenarios and spatial concepts for small-scale architectural structures and diverse cultural uses within the Kulturzone.

The exhibition presented the results of these projects and invited visitors to reflect on possible futures for Schlosspark Steyr. At its core were four different scenarios for the development of the Kulturzone:

Temporary
The Kulturzone is conceived as a fully mobile and reversible system. All elements can be assembled flexibly, transported and used in different locations, allowing the park to remain largely unchanged.

Extended
For larger events, the Kulturzone expands beyond its core area. Through modular extensions, smaller formats can be scaled up into festivals, markets or larger events.

Compact
A compact cultural space creates room for smaller events and everyday uses. A permanent basic infrastructure provides the foundation for markets, workshops, readings, yoga sessions or small concerts.

Integrated
The Kulturzone is envisioned as a year-round cultural campus that connects the Barocke Nordzone, the large meadow and the Orangerie, bringing together different cultural uses within a long-term overall concept.

The exhibition remains on display in Schlosspark Steyr throughout the summer.
